Finish

  1. Sew 2 semicircles to each square as pictured, using a flat or invisible seam. (Flat seam is worked by placing pieces flat, edges together, and sewing back and forth so that there is no ridge or bulk at the join.)
I find that having row 1 of the square at the top makes the rows go together more attractively.
    pieces  invisible seam
  2. Sew side pieces together as pictured, sewing slightly in from edges rather than at them to make ridged seams.
    Like so.
  3. With wrong sides together, whipstitch edges together to sew front to sides.
  4. Sew back to side the same way as front, pausing three-quarters of the way around to stuff pillow. Finish seaming, weave ends.

Crochet basket

Crochet basket
To create the first row of the body of the basket, you work in the back of each half double crochet.
This creates a lovely seam separating the base of the basket from the body of the basket!
Adding more rounds…
And more rounds..
And now the fun part: making the handles!
Add another row after making the handles, and the chunky basket is complete!
This basket is incredibly practical as you can use it anywhere around the house to store anything!
Right now I’m using it to store yarn that I’m using for current projects.  However, I could see myself using this basket in the baby room to store little socks, mittens and hats!
Here’s a pic to show the relative size of this basket!  Liz also includes modifications to her original pattern so you can make a larger basket if you prefer.

TAIL
This tail is optional, but it gives the bear balance so that it sits better.

R1: Ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6 sts)
R2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sts)
R3: Sc 12
Stuff firmly.  Fasten off and leave long end for sewing.  Try placing the tail in various positions at the bottom-back of the body to see which placement is best (to give balance).
BOWTIE:
The bowtie consists of 3 parts using red yarn: (1) Two triangular-shaped side pieces, (2) centre circle
(1) Triangular-shaped piece (make 2)
R1: Ch 2, 5 sc in second ch from hook. (5 sts)
R2: 2 sc in each sc around. (10 sts)
R3-4: Sc 10.
Fasten off and weave in end.
(2) Centre Circle
R1: Ch 2, 3 sc in second ch from hook. (3 sts)  Leave long tail to attach to sides later.
R2: 2 sc in each sc around. (6 sts)
R3-5: Sc 6.
R6: *Sk 1 sc, sc 1*, rep 3 times (3 sts)
Fasten off and leave long end for attaching.  Weave this end back through the circle. Weave original end (from R1) back through the circle as well.  This should result in a circle with one end sticking out of each side.  Pull ends tightly to give it a nice round shape.  Using these ends, attach the centre circle to the two triangular-shaped side pieces.  Then, attach the bowtie to the bear’s neck.
Adding details:
  • Cut out circular piece of brown felt and sew nose onto felt with black yarn.  Attach felt nose to face by sewing or using a glue gun.
  • To give the “bear paw” effect, cut two oval pieces of brown felt.  Glue gun or sew them onto the bottom of the feet.  Use black embroidery floss to sew three black lines to “attach” the top portion of the felt to the foot.  Do the same thing to the arms using two circular pieces of felt.
